Los Angeles Underage DUI Lawyer
California has a reputation for having some of the toughest underage DUI laws in the nation. California is among the states that have adopted the "Zero Tolerance Law" which mandates that anyone under 21 years of age will be charged with a DUI if they are caught with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.05% or greater. If your child has been charged with an underage DUI, he or she is at danger of losing their driver's license and may also suffer other penalties for extended periods of time.
Don't take a chance with your child's future. A Los Angeles criminal defense attorney can help you fight DUI charges and regain control over your life.
Underage DUI Charges
In order for most people to reach a BAC of 0.01%, they must consume either one 12-ounce beer, one 1.25-ounce of liquor, or one 4-ounce glass of wine. Those charged with an underage DUI will be subject to two separate prosecutors, the DMV and the criminal court. The criminal court judge has the right to confiscate an underage driver's vehicle and also to suspend the driver's license for at least one year.
If the individual being charged refuses to submit to chemical testing, they will automatically lose their license for a year as well. If the driver refuses chemical testing a second time, his or her license will be suspended for 2 years. The penalties will continue to increase with every refusal, and the state treats refusal to submit to chemical testing as the same as an underage DUI.
